Bainbridge Performing Arts is hosting an inaugural Community Arts Day April 29 at The Playhouse, 200 Madison Ave. N, Bainbridge Island, with free activities and entertainment for the whole family starting at 10 a.m.

Bainbridge Performing Arts is a magnet for acting, dancing and musical performances in Kitsap County, and all will be represented during the day.

The day kicks off with an a cappella performance by the Bainbridge Chorale at 10 a.m., followed by a volunteer recognition ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and tap dancing from the Bainbridge Ballet at 11 a.m.

BPA director Christopher Shainnin noted the importance of the more than 100 volunteers to the operation of the performing arts center.

“Our volunteers are integral to everything we do here . . .,” he said. “They form the very heart of The Playhouse.”

At 12:15 p.m. there will be performances by the theater school students, Camp Teen Broadway and Second Stage, followed at 12:30 p.m. by the Bainbridge Ballet performing modern and jazz dancing.

At 1 p.m. the Lehua Dance Theatre will perform modern dance, and at 1:30 p.m. Bainbridge Dance Center will perform modern and ballet.

At 2 p.m. there will be a modern dance performance by Bainbridge Island dancer and choreographer Vince Palazzolo-Packard, who recently won the Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council’s Amy Award for emerging artists.
