Port Orchard ferry dock closing up to eight weeks for painting

The Port Orchard Foot Ferry Dock will close for painting for up to eight weeks starting Oct. 6.

The Port Orchard Foot Ferry Dock will close for painting for up to eight weeks starting Oct. 6.

Kitsap Transit’s ferries will dock at the Port Orchard Marina during the closure and all passenger loading and unloading will be moved to the marina.

Signage will direct passengers to the temporary loading area.

Work crews will be on-site beginning Oct. 1, but the current dock will remain open through the end of service on Oct. 4.

Kitsap Transit officials reminds passengers that the marina ramp is steep, particularly at low tide and the dock is long.

Passengers need to give themselves ample time to get to their boat, and use caution on the ramp and wear appropriate shoes.

During the painting project, Kitsap Transit will offer call-in-advance, accessible transit service to riders whose disabilities may prevent them from comfortably navigating the ramp or dock.

Those unable to use the Port Orchard Marina dock can schedule transit rides between Port Orchard and Bremerton by calling at least two hours and up to seven days, in advance.

Starting Oct. 6, riders who cannot navigate the ramp to the Marina dock, can call 360-373-2877 between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays to schedule transit rides.

Early morning rides should be scheduled the day before. Saturday rides will need to be scheduled by Friday.

Loading and unloading at the marina is expected to take a few minutes longer on each trip.

Anticipate making up that time in the water, but the Port Orchard/Bremerton ferries may run a little late during peak hours.

The elevator on the Bremerton dock will be closed during the Port Orchard Dock closure.

Annapolis/Bremerton service will not be impacted during the closure.
