Port of Poulsbo union talks, liveaboard proposals moving forward

Port of Poulsbo union talks, liveaboard proposals are moving forward. Board of Commissioners meeting May 21.

POULSBO — The Poulsbo City Council will review a proposed interlocal agreement for liveaboard-boater parking enforcement May 20. Once that is signed, the Port of Poulsbo will submit its Joint Aquatic Resource Permit Application in hopes of increasing its number of liveaboard boat slips.

The port wants to increase from 12 to 25 the number of slips allocated to people who live on their boats. The port is allowed 25 by state law, but is restricted under an agreement with the city because of lack of parking on Anderson Parkway. Port officials say the port-owned parking lot on Jensen Way provides more than enough parking to accommodate liveaboard vehicles.

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. on the first, second and third Wednesdays of the month in City Hall. Meetings are open to the public. Meanwhile, collective bargaining negotiations continue between the port and the Teamsters. Port executive director Brad Miller said the port is negotiating the economics — all things having to do with money and wages — of the proposed collective bargaining agreement.

The Port of Poulsbo Board of Commissioners meets at 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month in the multi-purpose room on “E” dock (18809 Front St.). The next meeting is May 21. Meetings are open to the public.
