PORT GAMBLE — The Christmas spirit is alive and well in Port Gamble. The town recently released the results of its fifth annual Fruitcake Contest, second annual Gingerbread House Contest and the first Roasted Chestnuts Caroling Contest.
A mother/daughter-in-law duo took top honors in the fruitcake contest. Joan Guptill from Electric City has been baking this fruitcake since 1972. Her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Guptill from Gig Harbor, participated in the making for her first time this year.
The Gingerbread House Contest showcased local creations ranging from a lighthouse to a train. The winner, for the second year, was Lora Haskins and family. They started the project just after Thanksgiving and used floor plans to create Port Gamble’s own Walker Ames house.
