Sheriff’s deputies responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of NE Riddell Road and Perry Avenue NE in East Bremerton at 1:30 a.m. Oct. 15. The vehicle was off the roadway and partially down an embankment on the east side of Perry Avenue.
The 25-year-old East Bremerton woman who was driving the vehicle told a deputy she was driving eastbound on Riddell Road when she swerved to miss someone in the roadway. She said she tried to stop, but her brakes did not work.
The deputy noted in his report the woman smelled like alcohol. The woman told him she had “half a vodka.”
The woman completed field sobriety tests and blew a .161 on a portable Breathalyzer test — twice the legal limit.
While being transported to jail, the deputy had to pull over while the woman vomited. She vomited several times at the jail as well and said it was due to stomach ulcers and acid reflux, not her alcohol consumption.
Before completing a blood-alcohol concentration test at jail, she demanded the deputy call her boyfriend and have him pick her up. He told her she could call him after she was done being processed for DUI and the woman became argumentative. She told him she would not proceed until her boyfriend arrived at the jail.
The woman eventually completed the blood-alcohol concentration test, blowing a .255. Due to her high alcohol level, the deputy took her to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton and cited her for DUI.
No ski bib pants for this guy
Sheriff’s deputies responded to Kitsap Sports on Myhre Place NW in Silverdale at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 for a report of store employees fighting with a shoplifter outside the front doors.
The employees were struggling to detain the 21-year-old Poulsbo man when deputies arrived. The man was wearing stolen ski bib pants valued at more than $200.
The man took off the pants and gave them back to the store employees.
One employee told a deputy he watched the man take the ski bib pants into a fitting room, but when he came out, he wasn’t carrying them anymore. He asked the man how they fit, he said they were fine and the employee asked him where the pants were now. The man didn’t answer and began walking toward the front doors.
The man was arrested and booked into jail for third-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and third-degree theft. He was later released.
A phlegm-filled breakup
A sheriff’s deputy responded to a domestic verbal dispute around 5:15 a.m. Oct. 16 at a home in the 8000 block of Chinook Way NE in East Bremerton.
The deputy spoke to a 20-year-old Burien woman who said she and her boyfriend of four years were at a friend’s house and she decided to end their relationship. The 26-year-old East Bremerton man was no longer at the residence.
After she ended their relationship, the man said he wanted to leave. He sat in his now-ex-girlfriend’s car and demanded the keys. She refused, but he lunged at her and took them. He drove off, returning a few minutes later.
The man yelled at his ex-girlfriend, spit in her face and drove away.
The woman told the deputy he’s done that before and when she’s tried to end their relationship in the past, her ex-boyfriend would get violent or take her purse, phone and other belongings so she couldn’t leave.
On Oct. 20, the deputy contacted the woman to see what had been going on. She said her ex-boyfriend returned her car and he’d called her a couple times, but she did not want to talk to him.
The deputy tracked down a Silverdale address where the man might be staying. He found him there and asked if he had a girlfriend. The man said yes and the deputy asked if he knew why he was asking about her. He responded, “Are you talking about the incident where I spit in her face?”
The man was arrested and booked into jail for first-degree theft, fourth-degree assault and outstanding warrants. His bail is set at $7,500.
Room 222
Oxford Suites housekeepers found drug paraphernalia inside Room 222 while cleaning around 3:30 p.m. Oct. 15. Deputies responded to the Silverdale hotel and the housekeepers said they found syringe caps, a drink bottle turned into a smoking device, cotton balls, alcohol wipes, a rubber tube used to tie off veins and what they believed was black tar heroin.
A sheriff’s deputy told hotel employees to call back when the people staying in Room 222 returned. An Oxford Suites employee called that night saying the people had returned.
When deputies arrived, a suspect pulled away in a vehicle and another deputy pulled the 35-year-old Central Kitsap man over in the All Star Lanes parking lot.
The man admitted there was drug use in the hotel room, but would not provide specific details.
Deputies obtained a search warrant and searched Room 222. They found various pills and the drug paraphernalia the housekeepers said was in there.
A warrant for violation of the Uniform Controlled Substance Act: possession of a Schedule II narcotic was issued for the 35-year-old man who called police a few days later because he read in a newspaper there was a warrant out for his arrest.
He spoke to a deputy and said he was willing to turn himself in.
