Oil car wash

A 49-year-old East Bremerton man called police at 5:34 a.m. Oct. 22 after he discovered someone poured oil over his 2001 Mercedes ML320 sometime during the night.

A resident of Quinault Court, he estimated about a gallon was dumped on his vehicle. He told Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies he suspects he is a victim of a hate crime because of his bumper sticker which reads, “Liberalism is legalized looting.”

How’d that car get there?

A sheriff’s deputy was driving southbound on Sidney Road in Port Orchard at 8:15 p.m. Oct. 24 when he observed a white car going about 55 or 60 mph in the posted 35 mph zone.

He pursued the vehicle, but lost sight of it on Melcher Street. He asked a female motorist who had pulled her vehicle onto the shoulder if she saw the vehicle. She said it almost ran over her and was headed toward Sherman Avenue.

While looking for the vehicle, the deputy saw a 26-year-old Central Kitsap man walking southbound on Sherman Avenue. The deputy asked if he saw a white car and the man clinched his fists and started cursing. He said he just got out of jail the day before for driving with a suspended license and accused the deputy of harassment.

The deputy asked the man if he’d been driving and the man said no, but continued to yell and curse.

Another police officer located the white car in the middle of the intersection of Sherman and Hull avenues. The deputy checked the license plates and discovered the CK man was the registered owner.

The man told the deputy he had a white car, but did not drive it that night. The deputy showed him the vehicle and the man said it was his, but was unsure how it got in the middle of the intersection.

The deputy noted in his report the man appeared intoxicated, but refused to take a Breathalyzer test.

He was arrested and booked into jail for attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle. His bail is set at $30,000.
