SEQUIM — Turnovers. In a game where both teams were evenly matched, the Buccaneers turned the ball over five times resulting in a 33-7 defeat against the Sequim Wolves Friday night in an Olympic League contest in Sequim.
“If we didn’t turn the ball over, we would have been right there with them,” said Buccaneers coach Dan Novick. “It was an even game without the turnovers. That was the difference in the game.”
KINGSTON — The transition for first time middle school students into Kingston Middle School has exceeded even the highest expectations.
With more than 60 eighth graders at KMS reaching out to 260 of their sixth grade counterparts, the elder students are making sure the newly created middle school is indeed “Where Everybody Belongs.”
Cy worked tirelessly to create opportunities for children to play and learn, from his work to improve basketball courts in Kola Kole to getting the Kingston High School built. His last public appearance was at the grand opening celebration for the new school. Just before the dedication ceremony got underway, he fell and suffered a head injury. He died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle 11 days later. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family.
HOOD CANAL — When Charlie Evans started work with the Washington State Department of Transportation as a bridge engineer in 1970, he had only a slide rule, books, his comrades and his wits to help make the Hood Canal Bridge float.
Now, though the slide rules and books have been shelved, and Evans has retired, the WSDOT crews working on the current Hood Canal Bridge project continue to rely on his wits and knowledge while utilizing modern day technology.
Public access to an easement road is in question between the North Kitsap School District and a property owner adjacent to Gordon Elementary School in Kingston.

The commissioners will meet with residents at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 for an informational session at the North Kitsap High School. It is the second of three “community conversations” designed to allow board members the chance to give an overview of the county’s budget and its current financial challenges.
KINGSTON — The sun was shining brightly on Wolfle Elementary School and the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe during a celebration for the ages as seven months of hard work were honored by both groups, friends, family and neighbors.
The culmination was the raising of a story pole and the recognition of community bonds Wednesday.
KINGSTON — The connections being forged between Kingston High School and the Kingston community have become more tangible since the school opened nearly a month ago. Many local businesses are starting to see and feel the difference an extra 870 students — some of whom leave campus during lunch period to run errands or grab a bite to eat — can make.

Some developers have held public meetings during the past few years, allowing residents to comment on the proposed construction.

Marj was known as Kingston’s favorite librarian for 20 years, introducing young readers to exotic bugs and good books, and creating lifetimes of good memories and simple pleasures as she taught her friends and family about cooking, knitting and the importance of family.
