Wanna be a firefighter? North Kitsap Fire & Rescue is accepting applications from those interested in joining the well-regarded volunteer-intern program. Candidates 18 years of age with a driver’s license, high school diploma or GED may apply until 5 p.m., June 29. Further information is available at www.nkfr.org or by calling us at (360) 297-3619.

Water safety
A momentary lack of supervision is the leading factor in drowning of younger children. However, well-fitted life jackets provide important and potentially life-saving protection. Life jackets are available to borrow or to purchase at our Paul T. Nichol headquarters fire station, 26642 Miller Bay Road NE, Kingston.

Lead a parade or party!
Once again this year, NKF&R firefighters are supporting fundraising efforts for the Kingston Fourth of July Celebration by selling raffle tickets for $1 each or six for $5. Two winning entries will be drawn from the stage at Tiny Town on the evening of July 3. One ticket holder will get one of NKF&R’s famous and rare fire station birthday parties with all the trimmings. The other ticket holder will win two seats on the district’s flagship fire engine as it leads the town’s Fourth of July parade, plus preferred parking downtown, VIP seats from which to watch the balance of the parade and lunch for four from Cup and Muffin.

Get your tickets at our headquarters station during regular business hours, or call to arrange a time that works for you.

Fire season
Forecasters are predicting a warmer and drier summer this year, and we’re bracing ourselves for a busy fire season. Help ensure that the fire problem doesn’t strike here by observing the outdoor burning rules (available through our website or at any of our staffed fire stations) and avoiding use of other ignition sources such as fireworks.

Free car seat check
Stop by our headquarters fire station on June 16 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. to make sure that your children are riding as safely as possible into the summer.

CPR, first aid training
No classes are scheduled over the summer. Check back with us in mid-August for the fall schedule.
