ISLAND LAKE — One Bremerton man died and another Bremerton man was injured and arrested for vehicular homicide, following a one-car collision near the 12500 block of Central Valley Road NW in the early hours of May 17.

Kitsap County Sheriff spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson reported the call came in at 5:20 a.m., just south of NE Avery Lane on Central Valley Road, just east of Island Lake. The driver, a 22-year-old man from Bremerton, was transported to Harrison Medical Center.

Norman S. Solis is charged with vehicular homicide in Kitsap County Superior Court. Solis was released from the hospital after the crash and booked into Kitsap County Jail on $200,000 bail.

His passenger, a 20-year-old man from Bremerton, was declared dead at the scene. The Kitsap County Coroner identified him as Ernest Jason E. Cardenas. An autopsy is scheduled May 20 to determine cause of death.

Sheriff’s patrol and traffic deputies had strong probable cause to suspect Solis of consuming alcoholic intoxicants, according to the report, and ordered a blood draw at the hospital. “Excessive vehicle speed was obvious,” the report stated.

Wilson reported Solis lost control at a bend in the roadway, overcorrected and slid sideways on the roadway, continuing down an embankment and struck a driveway retaining wall, where the car then went airborne for about 100 feet. The car narrowly missed hitting a house and ended up in a yard.

It’s unknown how many times the vehicle rolled or tumbled, and came to a stop on its wheels, according to the report. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Persons with information about this crash are asked to contact Deputy Darren Andersson, sheriff’s traffic unit, at (360) 337-4634.
