Olympic High School went into voluntarily lockdown after a secondhand report of shots being fired behind the school this morning.

Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Wilson said the high school reported information provided to administrators regarding two men walking behind the school. According to the reporting party, one was carrying a rifle. Wilson noted there was a 15-minute delay between the school receiving the information and reporting it to the department.

The lockdown started at 11:25 a.m. and ended at 12:32 p.m., according to David Beil, spokesman for the Central Kitsap School District.

A search of the area turned up nothing, Wilson said.

A deputy went to the school to notify administrators that there were no suspects in custody. Wilson said he did not want to speculate further about the incident and no other details were released.

“We can only do so much if nothing is actively happening,” he said.

The school is located in Bremerton, but is part of the Central Kitsap School District. According to Beil, the lockdown was just “a precautionary measure” and nothing happened on the actual campus, he said.

“Safety of staff and students is the first priority,” he said.
