Olalla man arrested 13th time for DUI

The number “13” is an unluckly number — at least for a South Kitsap man.

Bail was set for $1 million for a Olalla man who remains in custody in the Kitsap County Jail after he was arrested for a 13th time for suspicion of driving under the influence on Oct. 30.

Charles Thomas Sorensen, 49, was charged Oct. 31 in Kitsap County District Court with one count of felony driving under the influence (DUI) and one count of attempting to elude a police vehicle.

According to charging papers, Washington State Patrol reported they spotted grass and branches stuck underneath Sorensen’s 1997 white Chevrolet pickup on a South Kitsap road about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Sorensen failed to stop after state troopers activated lights and sirens on Long Lake Road. He finally stopped after turning onto Clover Valley. Troopers reported Sorensen was “swaying heavily” with bloodshot eyes and “smelled heavily of intoxicants.” They said the man apparently crashed his truck in a ditch near Sedgwick at Banner Road.

Court documents stated that Sorensen refused a breath test, but a search warrant allowed deputies to take two blood samples. Troopers discovered an open bottle of vodka and a half-empty beer bottle.

Court records show that Sorensen had been arrested in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007 for DUI.
