HANSVILLE — All this week, Kitsap County employees and Hansville community volunteers will be sprucing up the soon-to-open Norwegian Point Park for its first public appearance.

After gaining ground since September 2005, when a Washington State Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation $1 million grant to Kitsap County made buying the park possible, it is now ready for public use.

“Right now, we have Kitsap County Commissioner Chris Endresen coming,” said Hansville Greenway Association vice-president Fred Nelson. “(HGA President) Ken Shawcroft will talk about its involvement in the Greenway, and the volunteers who helped make this possible. Chip Faver, the new director of the (county) parks department will be there. We’re really looking forward to it.”

After introductions and speeches, residents will have the opportunity to explore the 4 acre property. Several dilapidated buildings on the land will be roped off, Nelson said. The county and community are still discussing what to do with the potential historical structures.

Additional parking will be available at Buck Lake Park, and a Kitsap Transit shuttle will be on hand to take event-goers to Norwegian Point.
