No monkeying around: Students have a gorilla of a time

It may have been all fun and games — and gorillas — the afternoon of Dec. 6, but the students in Linda Hemry's second-grade class got to this point because they were all business.

POULSBO — It may have been all fun and games — and gorillas — the afternoon of Dec. 6, but the students in Linda Hemry’s second-grade class got to this point because they were all business.

The Gateway Christian School class of seven completed its paper-link reading chain to span across the room. For each book read, another paper link was added to the chain. The students took a little more than two months to reach the goal — “pretty amazing” considering the class size, Hemry wrote in an email.

To celebrate, Hemry, dressed as a gorilla, danced and paraded around the school before giving each student a banana split. The costume and banana splits were Hemry’s way of motivating the students.
