NKSD projects progressing this summer

Progress is being made this summer with expansions at Poulsbo Middle School and Suquamish Elementary School, North Kitsap School District announced in a recent newsletter.

The PMS addition project, which broke ground in summer of 2023, will add 10 modern classrooms and a student gathering space, connecting the main building to the existing lunchroom/gymnasium.

The expansion will remove portables, thus improving safety for students, with completion set for the fall. Exterior sheathing is complete, and the installation of metal siding has been in progress. Plumbing, electrical and HVAC rough-in work is underway, and interior work with window installations, insulation and sheetrock will continue.

At Suquamish Elementary, grading continued as well as installation of concrete forms and the pouring of the concrete foundation for its new 4,200-square-foot gym with separate secure entrances for community use, per NKSD. The addition provides increased flexibility for learning throughout the school by creating a dedicated space for physical education.

The David Wolfle Elementary gym addition was expected to go to bid this month with construction estimated to begin in August. Like Suquamish Elementary, this project will add a 4,200-square-foot gym with separate secure entrances for community use.

The expansion of the schools is part of the voter-approved 2022 capital levy.
