NK School Board candidate drops out of race

North Kitsap School Board candidate Melanie Miller has dropped out of the running for the District 5 position due to family reasons, meaning Stacy Mills will be unopposed for the general election Nov. 7.

Her name will still be on the ballot as it was printed before she made the announcement.

“I fully support Stacy Mills for the NKSB District 5 position,” Miller says in a statement to the North Kitsap Herald. “She is committed to our community, and I know she will listen and represent us well.”

The District 5 seat was previously held by Barbara Waggoner, who was appointed to the board in 2022 following Cindy Webster-Martinson’s resignation. But Waggoner finished third in the August primary behind Mills and Miller, and only the top two advance to the general election.
