NK, Kingston graduations back to normal

Attendance open; no masks or social distancing

Graduation ceremonies for North Kitsap and Kingston high schools will be open to all family and friends for the first time since 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

For NK, the commencement ceremony takes place at 5 p.m. June 10 at the North Kitsap Stadium. The Vikings have a graduating class of 238 seniors. Valedictorians are Dalton Brockett, Jason Hart, Trevor Martin and Laine Miller. The salutatorians are Kaiya Ochs and Carl Burchill.

For Kingston, the commencement ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. June 11, also at the NK Stadium. The Buccanneers have a graduating class of 167 seniors. Valedictorians are Claire Moe, Madeline Seid and Grace Epperson. The lone salutatorian is Lea Danhauer.

The ceremonies typically last about an hour and consist of a welcome song from the Suquamish and Port Gamble S’Klallam tribes, welcome speeches from the principals, music by the high school bands and choirs, speeches from the valedictorians/salutatorians, acceptance of the graduates by the school board, diploma roll call and the turning of the tassels.
