POULSBO — In its sixth match of the season, the North Kitsap boys tennis team crushed Mount Tahoma in one smooth sweep last Friday, bringing its season record to 5-1.

Coach Jay DeVries showed little anxiety as he watched his team, voicing his confidence at match end.

“We did great today,” he said.

No. 1 singles player Jordan Prince continued his dominating streak, winning a seemingly effortless 6-1 and 6-0.

“I just try to be as offensive as I can and keep the ball under control,” Prince explained.

Assistant coach Chad Gillespie said Prince has come a long way since he’s been on the team and is still showing improvement in his senior year.

Sophomore Jordan Tucker, who last year was on the football team, put up an intense two sets against his opponent, often using his fierce upper hand to smash the ball. Tucker’s won with a 6-2, 6-1. Gilespie said he was very impressed with Tucker’s abilities, especially since the athlete has only been on the team for three months.

“He’s a hard worker and a good addition to the team,” Gillespie said.

In doubles, Evan Faulk and Kevin Joines stayed clean at 6-0 6-0, waylaying the opposing team’s attempts to score with energetic teamwork. Doubles players Chris Zrout and Eric Edgren also edged out a commanding win a scoring 6-0 6-2 win.

No. 2 doubles team, Ben Kelch and Joe McBurney won 6-2, 6-0 as well.

Gillespie attributed the team’s success to its experienced members, noting that most of the players are returning seniors.

“We have a good strong program,” he said.
