Virginia Mason Franciscan Health has expanded its presence in Kitsap County with the opening of a new hybrid emergency department and urgent care clinic in Port Orchard, offering residents access to both services under one roof.
The facility, located at 450 South Kitsap Blvd., is the second of its kind in Washington. The model is designed to simplify patient decision-making by allowing individuals to be seen in one setting and billed only for the level of care they receive. VMFH opened its first hybrid site in Bremerton earlier this year, where more than 15,000 patients have been treated since March 2025.
“We have proudly served Kitsap County for more than 100 years, and our commitment to expand access to care is stronger than ever,” said Chad Melton, interim president of the Puget Sound market for VMFH.
The Port Orchard location is equipped similarly to a traditional hospital emergency department, with on-site lab services, X-rays and a multi-slice CT scanner. Patients are treated by emergency-trained physicians and nurses, and most are expected to experience shorter wait times compared to a standard emergency department, per VMFH.
The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, while urgent care services are available from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
VMFH is also set to debut a new 74-bed patient tower at St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale. Both expansions are aimed at relieving pressure on one of the state’s busiest emergency departments and meeting the health care needs of a growing county. VMFH operates hospitals, clinics and specialty programs across the Kitsap region and is part of one of the nation’s largest health systems.
