Murder defendant suspected in jail assault

An accused murderer is suspected of assaulting a fellow inmate Dec. 9 in the Kitsap County Jail, reported the Port Orchard Police Department.

An accused murderer is suspected of assaulting a fellow inmate Dec. 9 in the Kitsap County Jail, reported the Port Orchard Police Department.

David Michael Kalac, 33, allegedly assaulted a man who investigators believe is a friend of Amber Lynn Coplin, Kalac’s live-in girlfriend who was found dead inside her apartment on Nov. 4.

He is accused of killing Coplin, then taking photographs of her body and posting them, along with comments, on an Internet chat room. Kalac was arrested the day after the murder in Wilsonville, Ore.

Port Orchard police believe that Kalac, 33, to have sneaked out of his jail cell and went to the victim’s cell and assaulted him. The victim suffered cuts to his head and bruises, police reported.

After the assault, Kalac was placed in an isolated cell, according to Kitsap County Sheriff’ Office. Kalac is being held on a $2 million bail.
