Motorist’s illegal turn injures police officer

A Port Orchard motorcycle police officer was slightly injured July 4 when a man driving a red 2000 Toyota Celica hit him while making an illegal left turn from Bay Street to Rockwell Avenue.

A Port Orchard motorcycle police officer was slightly injured July 4 when a man driving a red 2000 Toyota Celica hit him while making an illegal left turn from Bay Street to Rockwell Avenue.

Police department spokesman Sgt. Dale Schuster said the man driving the Celica, a 21-year-old Port Orchard resident, struck Officer Stephen Morrison at 11:30 p.m. Morrison was in the center lane attending to traffic control when he was struck by the Celica.Morrison was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, where he was released the next day. Schuster said the injured officer took the day off July 5 with ”bumps and bruises.

”The driver of the Celica was cited for the illegal left turn, Schuster said. He added that no alcohol or drugs were found on the driver.
