More than just nails

POULSBO — Kerry Longworth built her reputation and clientele on nails but when she opened her own salon, Longworth Studio, she made the bold leap into skin and body treatments as well.

“I have been able to build a successful nail service business but I elected to continue my education at the Euro Institute in Renton,” Longworth explained.

At the Euro Institute, which is a nationally recognized esthetic school, Longworth expanded her knowledge in skin care with a special emphasis on chemical peels. All while maintaining her nail-service clientele.

“The transition from nails to skin care offerings has been wonderful and it’s been very well received,” she said. “It’s exceeded all of my expectations.”

With the transition complete, her attention is more focused on her studio in Anderson Parkway.

“We’ve got such a great view of the water and I wanted to keep it as open as I can,” Longworth noted, pointing to the solid glass storefront.

While maintaining the view, having an elegant salon environment was an important factor in the design and decor of the studio, she said.

“It’s been hard to get just the right balance between an elegant salon and a comfortable environment where people can come in and kick their feet up,” she explained.

The studio provides the traditional full range of manicures, pedicures and artificial nails, but it also offers traditional and esthetic facials and chemical peels.

Massages, body treatments, salt scrubs and mud wraps are also included in the studio’s varied offerings.

“In addition to our standard offerings, we’ll have seasonal things that will change throughout the year,” Longworth explained.

For summer, the salon is offering a margarita pedicure complete with a virgin margarita and offers pedipals, where clients can have a pedicure and lunch from a local restaurant while they wait.

“We have several restaurants to choose from and we have a lot of mothers and daughters and best friends come in as well,” Longworth said.

Pedipals are just the tip of the iceberg of the studio’s numerous selections, she added.

Longworth also sells Iredale cosmetics and Dr. Spiller and Jan Marini skin care products. Bath and body products are available as well.

For clients wanting the full salon experience or large groups wanting a pedicure party or something similar, Longworth said she has something for both.

“We offer spa packages and we can also do custom packages for people to fit their needs,” she explained. “We can also handle larger groups of people as well.”
