Monthly music series starting in Olalla

The tiny South Kitsap town is becoming something of a Mecca for touring musicians.

OLALLA — The tiny South Kitsap town is becoming something of a Mecca for touring musicians, according to Charlee Glock-Jackson, Olalla Community Club vice president.

Starting Sept. 13, the Olalla Community Hall, located at 12970 Olalla Valley Road SE, will host a monthly music series featuring world-class musicians from throughout the nation.

Most of the Clubhouse Concerts will take place at 6 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month with a potluck for anyone who wants to bring a dish to share and meet the performers.

The live music will start at 7 p.m.

“We’re calling them Clubhouse Concerts because they are like old-fashioned house concerts that happen to take place at the community hall,” said Glock-Jackson. “And the hall is the home of our Olalla Community Club that has been serving our area since 1937.”

She said admission is by donation and proceeds will be split between the performers and Olalla Community Club to support the club’s work in the community.

Singer-songwriter Dana Hubbard will kick off the Clubhouse Concerts on Sept. 13.

Hubbard has won a long list of awards, including first place at the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, Indie International, the American Music Festival and an honorable mention at WoodyFest in Oklahoma in 2012 — among others.

Hubbard has shared the stage — which spans the spectrum from blues to bluegrass — Jesse Winchester, Sam Bush, Greg Allman, Etta James, Little Feat, Albert King, Joe Ely, John Hammond, Chris Isaak, Charlie Musslewhite and others.

“Dana has been called a cross between Bruce Cockburn and Jorma Kaukonen,” said Nolan Pepperdine, organizer of the concert series. “He’s also won Artist of The Year from Concerts in Your Home. He always puts on a great show and seats are going to fill up pretty quickly, so early reservations are recommended.”

The Clubhouse Concerts Series will resume in the fall of 2015.

“We already have several great bands booked for the 2015-16 series,” Pepperdine said. “Word has already started to spread among performers that Olalla is a great place to play and bands are asking to be part of the lineup.”

Call (253) 438-0078 or visit olallahouse.org for information and reservations.

All concerts support the performers and the work of the Olalla Community Club, a non-profit organization that maintains the community hall and supports local food banks, school music programs, holiday food drives and other good works activities.

Suggested donation is $15-$20 for each concert.
