No one was home when a monitored alarm system alerted 911 that smoke detectors had activated and alarms were sounding in a Seabeck home the morning of March 12.
Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue (CKFR) crews were dispatched to the house off Holly Road NW, across from Boundary Trail, in the Lake Symington area shortly before 11 a.m. Firefighters found gray smoke coming from the eaves of the home and heavy smoke pouring from a daylight basement window that had burst.
Crews quickly extinguished the visible flames with a portable fire extinguisher. Firefighters then used a powerful fan to evacuate smoke from the home and checked for hot spots with a thermal imaging camera.
Fire and heavy smoke damage was contained to the lower level of the home. Smoke damage to the upper level was minimal. The American Red Cross is assisting the homeowner with housing at this time.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Kitsap County fire Marshal’s Office.
