POULSBO — After being missing for 22 hours earlier this week, Marilyn Carol Smith, of the 16000 block of Noll Road NE, was found safe and unharmed on Wednesday.

The 66-year-old woman, who suffers from vascular dementia and had been missing since 6:30 p.m. Monday evening, was located on a dirt access road near NE Kevos Pond Drive, about 2.5 miles from her home. She was found around 4 p.m. Wednesday by a resident who was walking by and heard her cry for help and for shoes to wear. Another witness had reported a woman walking barefoot on Noll Road late Monday evening.

On Tuesday afternoon, Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies were made aware of Smith’s disappearance and initiated a search and rescue mission.

More than 60 volunteers from various agencies were involved in the search effort, including search and rescue units from Kitsap, King and Mason counties, German Shepherd Search Dogs of Washington State, North West Blood Hounds of Pierce County, West Coast Search Dogs of Grays Harbor, Olympic and Seattle Mountain Rescue groups, various Kitsap County emergency agencies, North Kitsap School District, American Red Cross and area residents and neighbors.

Smith was soon returned to her family. Her family has made arrangements to have Smith medically evaluated.

There is no reason to suspect that criminal activity was involved with the woman’s disappearance, the sheriff’s office reported.Missing Poulsbo
