POULSBO — As the current Miss Poulsbo Janna Murray prepares to pass her crown to her successor March 25 undoubtedly she will have one question on her mind: shall we dance?
That’s the theme for the 52nd Miss Poulsbo pageant as five contestants vie for that honor and the opportunity to compete in the Miss Washington Pageant. The local pageant begins at 6 p.m. at the Bremerton High School Performing Arts Center.
The young women will compete along with the eight Miss Kitsap contestants for their share of more than $25,000 in scholarship money from the Miss Poulsbo Organization.
The 2006 Miss Poulsbo contestants are:
• Bria Trujillo of Poulsbo, daughter of Julie Comnick and Tony Trujillo. Trujillo, 17, is a senior at North Kitsap High School and plans to work as a child psychologist or school counselor.
Trujillo will perform a hip hop dance to “Billy Jean/Smooth Criminal†by Michael Jackson. She has chosen “Teen Suicide Prevention†as her platform.
She is sponsored by Kregg Hoover, DDS and Poulsbo Dairy Queen.
• Heidi Nicks of Poulsbo, daughter of Jill and Jim Nicks, 19, is a freshman at the University of Washington and plans to become a physical therapist.
Nicks will sing Natalie Cole’s “Almost Like Being In Love†as her talent. Habitat for Humanity is her platform.
She is sponsored by Terhune Custom Homes.
• Tosha Stabler of Poulsbo, 17, daughter of Bonnie Stabler-Olson and Raymond Olson, is a senior at North Kitsap High School and plans to become a dermatologist.
Stabler will perform a lyrical dance to “It is You I Have Loved†from the movie, “Shrek,†as her talent. She has chosen “Preventing Drinking and Driving†as her platform.
She is sponsored by the North Kitsap Family Practice and the law firm of Tolman, Kirk and Franz.
• Julia Humphrey of Poulsbo, 18, daughter of Jum Hee and Michael Humphrey, is a senior at Central Kitsap High School and plans to become a child psychologist.
Humphrey will perform a lyrical dance to “One In A Million†from the movie, “Miss Congeniality†as her talent. She has chosen “Youth Suicide Prevention†as her platform.
She is sponsored by Irene’s School of Dance.
• Brenna Gardner-Brown of Poulsbo, 18, daughter of Rebecca and Mathew Gardner-Brown, is a freshman at Western Washington University.
Gardner-Brown will perform a jazz dance to “Lovin’ My Baby†from the musical “All Shook Up.†She has chosen “Women in Leadership Positions†as her platform.
She is sponsored by Sonja Sutton of Mary Kay Cosmetics and Cowgirl Coffee.
