In summertime, extended hours of sunshine means more time to hike, bike, run our trails or have a picnic with your family on our observation deck.

In summertime, extended hours of sunshine means more time to hike, bike, run our trails or have a picnic with your family on our observation deck. Now that June is upon us, it also means we are gearing up for our annual time warp: the June Faire, aka Medieval Faire. Think barons, maidens and swordsmen fighting for their honor. Don’t miss it! Come check it out as this medieval experience takes over our town the first weekend in June.

We have some exciting June events happening:

— June Faire, June 1-3. At the faire, you’ll take a step back in time with the Society of Creative Anachronism. This growing festival has been around for ages and takes over our town each year. In a flash, the trails and town become a medieval village complete with battles, dancing and debauchery. For more info, check out www.kitsapmedievalfaire.org.

— NW Adventure Sports, Unleash the Beast, June 9-10. If you are into running or outdoor sports, check out a fun-filled weekend of mountain biking, kayaking, paddling, trail running and standup paddleboarding. Whether you are a beginner or advanced, young or old adventurer you will appreciate the weekend of fun filled racing, demos, classes, vendors, food and festival atmosphere. For more information, check out www.unleashthebeast.com.

All ages are welcome and no experience is necessary for this seriously fun event, so grab the kids, your buddies and your sense of adventure and head to historic Port Gamble for the day or the weekend.

— Cruise Port Gamble. Each Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until dusk, check out the cool cars or bring your own car to show. The cars and owners will be located on the lawn next to Mike’s 4 Star BBQ & Gamble Bay Coffee. Cruise Port Gamble continues through the last Thursday in September.

— Best-selling author and Kitsap native Gregg Olsen paperback release, June 9. In the Port Gamble Community Theater,  Olsen will read and sign “Envy,” the first of six books in the Empty Coffin series, which takes place in Port Gamble. Take a walk through our town and see it from Olsen’s eyes. He will lead a tour through our residential streets pointing out the houses where “Envy” characters live and where mysterious events take place.

— Port Gamble Historic Lecture Series. The first was a huge success last month. The lecture has already outgrown the original venue and will now be hosting lectures at the Hood Canal Vista Pavilion. The series continues on the second Monday of each month, at 6 p.m., with free entrance to the Port Gamble Historic Museum following each lecture.

Don’t miss out on the next one, June 11. Peg Tillery of the Washington State University Extension program will present on the historic horticulture of the area. Special to this program will be her presentation and visual “bouquet” of the flowers that the settlers would have brought with them from the East Coast or from the California Gold rush and the invasive “bad plants” that ended up in our area. For more information, please call (360) 297-8078.

— “Anne of Green Gables.” Starting June 15, the Port Gamble Theater Company will present the play, based on L.M. Montgomery’s book. This childhood favorite is sure to be one of the most adored and sold-out shows of 2012. For tickets, visit www.portgambletheater.com.

— Are you looking for the perfect gift for your little one to give their Dad? Come to Port Gamble on June 16, at the Walker Ames House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and for just $5, your child can create something extra special for dad for Father’s Day!

— Western Washington Quilt Shop Hop, June 20-24. If quilting is your cup of tea, come out. There will be in-store drawings, guest pattern designers with trunk show demonstrations at our Quilted Strait! It is one of 54 selected premier quilt shops from Lynden to Vancouver. Check out www.washingtonquiltshophop.com for more info.

— Ghost Walk. This event will be taking a break for the summer and will start back up in September through December, with walks every Saturday in October and on Halloween night – best hurry for the dates you want as they are booking up now.
