BREMERTON — Twelve students from the Marcus Whitman Junior High School’s Quest Program advanced to the State History Day Contest slated for May 3 at Green River Community College in Auburn.

The students — the most from Marcus Whitman — advanced to the state competition after placing at the Regional History Day Contest at Olympic College on March 24.

The theme for this year’s National History Day is “Rights and Responsibility in History.”

Winners from the Senior Individual Website competition were Allie Rose (first place) for “Rights and Responsibilities of Using the Atomic Bomb;” Moriah Graziani (second) for “The Need to Reduce the Endangered Grey Wolf and the Responsibility to Protect their Rights’ and Hannah Schmidt (third) for “Rights and Responsibilities of the FCC in Children’s Television.”

Winners from the Senior Individual Performance were Mary Sprague (second) for “Clara Barton: Redefining Humanitarianism Through the Red Cross” and Alex Agee (third) for “The Advancement of Women’s Rights in Washington State.”

Bella Quinones and Amber Watson took first in Senior Group Performance for “Writing with the Blue Pencil: The Rights and Responsibility of the American Comics Industry.”

Garrett Jordan was first in Senior Individual Documentary for “Inside the Chinese Student Uprising of 1989: The Responsibility to Protest and the Rights of Protesters.”

Winners in the Junior Individual Documentary were Anya Fogel (second) for “The Bhopal Disaster: Rights Denied, Responsibilities Neglected” and Daniel Sprague (third) for “Ruling TV Airwaves: The FCC’s Responsibilities to Regulate Indecency.”

Caleb Meeson was second in Senior Individual Exhibit for “Rights and Responsibilities of Free Speech as a Form of Protest”.

Naia Kennedy took first in Junior Individual Exhibit for “Red Wolves: The Road to Recovery.”
