Man stabbed after attempted carjacking in Bremerton

Suspect charged with 1st-degree assault, robbery

Bremerton Police responded to the parking lot of Winco on Kitsap Way Aug. 31 after receiving a report of a “carjacking” with an injured victim and a suspect being detained.

The 79-year-old male victim has been identified as a resident of Kitsap County. He was stabbed multiple times by the suspect, a news release states. The suspect is 37-year-old Dustin Ballard of Duvall.

“It appears this was an attempt by the suspect to steal the victim’s car,” per the release. “Store employees, and a citizen assisted in stopping the attack and detaining the suspect while police were called.”

Detectives remained on scene to investigate, taking statements, and collecting evidence. Duvall was taken to the Kitsap County jail and was eventually charged with first-degree assault and robbery.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
