Longtime CK School Board incumbent facing former OC instructor

Longtime incumbent Eric Greene is running against newcomer Darin Veach for Central Kitsap School Board’s Director District 5 position, a four-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2026.

Greene has held the seat since 2008. He has a Bachelor of Science in athletic administration and coaching and secondary education from the University of Southern Mississippi, and also did graduate studies in history at Mississippi State University, and in curriculum and instruction at San Diego State University.

Veach has been a building automation contractor for 28 years and was an Olympic College engineering instructor from 1989-1990. He was also on the Central Kitsap School District Energy Standards Committee in 2012. He earned an engineering degree and an electronics apprentice degree at Olympic College. His community service includes being youth baseball director at Ross Fields in Silverdale and a youth sports coach.

Below are each candidate’s statements from the voters pamphlet.

Greene: It has been my great honor to serve the Central Kitsap community as the School District Director 5 since 2008. I take pleasure in representing greater Seabeck as well as the entirety of the Central Kitsap School District area.

I am proud of the many accomplishments made in recent years in the area of capital projects and am pleased with recent gains in addressing issues around student achievement, attendance, and behavior. The district has developed and is operating in alignment with a comprehensive strategic plan, taking great care to ensure the district is making adequate progress in meeting its stated goals and objectives.

Finally, I am extremely proud of the district’s financial status. It is no accident that CKSD is one of few districts across the state operating in the black, thanks to community support and the board’s commitment to fiscal discipline.

I look forward to continuing to serve CKSD and its students, families, staff, and community. Thank you for the opportunity to earn your vote and confidence.

Veach: I was born and raised in Kitsap County and attended CK schools from elementary to high school. I married my high school sweetheart and raised four sons with her. My intent for running for school board is to stay involved in the community and assist with providing ideas to improve education. I sincerely care about all students and want schools to play a positive role in their development by ensuring students achieve foundational academic skills.

I believe merit-based motivation can assist with increasing proficiency and stricter discipline can decrease distractions. Having coached many years of youth and adult sports, I am a proponent of protecting women in sports for safety and achievements. I also believe parents should be asked for permission by the district before anything medical is done to their children, since the parents are responsible for them until age 18.

As for practical experience, my time as an operations manager for a Seattle contractor prepared me for managing multi-million-dollar budgets, engineers and technicians. During my 13 years as a youth baseball director in Silverdale, my time working with the community was very positive and drew me to continue to serve the community as a school board member.
