Local motorcyclist killed in collision

A South Kitsap motorcyclist was killed in a Sept. 5 collision on Sedgwick Road, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

A South Kitsap motorcyclist was killed in a Sept. 5 collision on Sedgwick Road, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

WSP identified the deceased as Charles K. Heinzerling, 45, of Port Orchard.

Heinzerling was riding a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on Sedgwick about 5:07 p.m., when he attempted to pass a motor home and collided with a 2013 Honda CRV in the eastbound lane, according to WSP. The Honda was turning left onto Arderbard Road when the accident occurred.

Troopers reported that Heinzerling was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The Honda driver and her 12-year-old passenger were wearing seat belts.

Both was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

WSP troopers blocked off Sedgwick for more than two hours while they investigated the incident. No alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision and the cause was unsafe passing.
