Lemke regains seat on school board

Challenger Chris Lemke regained the District 3 board position in the South Kitsap School District by generating 60.24 percent of the vote to incumbent Naomi Polen’s 38.67 percent Tuesday night.

Lemke also performed well in the Aug. 18 primary.

Of the 6,133 votes cast, Lemke received 2,758 votes (45 percent).

Polen garnered 1,949 (31.8 percent), while Gail F. Porter also had 1,170 votes (19.1 percent).

Porter was subsequently ruled ineligible because she no longer lives in District 3.

Lemke, 60, previously held the District 3 position from 2001-05, but did not run for re-election.

He said he decided to focus on other volunteer activities at the time.

Polen, 45, was appointed to the school board in April 2008. Chuck Mayhew resigned from the position two months earlier.
