Kiwanis Mustang stays in NK | Kingston Kiwanis | October

Our 1964½ Mustang has found a new home with a Kingston resident, Tom Piecuch.

Piecuch was having dinner at The Point Casino and we have no way to know how his luck was there, but at Mike Wallace Park he definitely won big. Congratulations, Tom.

Jerry Schmidt is already working on next year’s model. My spies indicate that it may be a Mustang “Muscle Car.”

It was a fun filled evening with the band “House of Cards” entertaining the crowd. Scotty, the leader of the band, is a Kiwanis member, and our club supported the music as the last summer concert in the park. It was topped off by free strawberry shortcake served by club members. and this went over really well.

Tatiana Finch’s pig did great at the fair winning a ribbon for best in show and the prettiest pig in the show. (How do you determine if a pig is pretty?) We have no information on the exact weight of her pig and how much money it fetched, but a report will be forthcoming.

The Kiwanis support of the Boys and Girls club is impressive, but the beautiful thing about the Boys and Girls Club is that support comes from all directions including other organizations in town. This is very important for our young folks in town.

We have 65 participants this year and volunteers from parents and the North Kitsap School District makes it possible. The issue is always money, so if you have any extra hanging around please contact the Kiwanis Club and let us know. This is the second year we have had more than 60 kids involved and help is needed.

Shannon Harry, in union with ShareNet Foodbsank ,put together a collection of backpacks for our returning students and more than 150 backpacks. They had to be filled and because of our generous neighbors, these backpacks were filled with pencils, glue sticks and other school necessities.

This made the first day of school special for these students. There were 10 volunteers who spent a couple of hours filling them at Columbia Bank in Kingston. Besides Kiwanis volunteers, Kim Poole of Windermere Realty was there to help out.

Judy Osborne is still pursuing our Christmas toy drive and it is really paying off. We have 297 toys at this point, but need 400 to make our goal. If you would like to donate, bring new toys to Harry at Columbia Bank or come and see Osborne at our Kiwanis meeting at 7 a.m. Thursday mornings in the Oak Table Café in Kingston.

Come on down and we will buy you breakfast. If you have any questions about our programs, or would like to join our “do-gooder group”, please contact our President Dale Rude at (360) 265-6761, or Bob Lee at (360) 297-4462.

Have a great Kiwanis day.
