Kiwanis Club will award two $3,000 scholarships

The Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation is offering two $3,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors

KINGSTON — The Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation is offering two $3,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Candidates must have demonstrated significant community service activities that highlight positive character, citizenship and self-reliance.

The scholarships are dedicated to the memories of two founding members of the Greater Kingston Kiwanis Club, Robert “Bud” Meredith and Sylvester “Cy” Wyse, who lived a large portion of their lives in service to others in North Kitsap.

Scholarship applicants must live in the North Kitsap areas of Kingston, Hansville, Eglon, Indianola or Suquamish, and be a U.S. citizen.

“This will be our 11th year rewarding deserving students who have made contributing to our community a priority,” said Sheila Walters, Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation board member.

“The emphasis in awarding scholarships will be on the applicant’s volunteer and community service record, coupled with their one-page personal goal statement. This statement describes them and includes comments on their educational and career goals, and how they hope to serve their community and society in the future.”

Completed application packages must be received by the Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation by April 12. Interested students can obtain an application package from the Kingston High School webpage or from their counselor at Kingston High School, Spectrum School, Westsound Academy, or Gateway Christian School.
