A 55-year-old Bremerton man was in Kitsap County Superior Court June 9 facing four charges.

He faces life in prison and a $50,000 fine for rape; 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for kidnapping; five years in prison and a $10,000 fine for harassment threat to kill; and a year in jail and a $5,000 fine for assault. An attempted murder charge from police was dropped.

Courts records say Bremerton police made the arrest June 8 at 5:05 p.m. at a motel in the 5000 block of Kitsap Way.

That morning police were told by a crying, hysterical woman she had been staying with a man for a few days. The night before she was having withdrawals so she took suboxone. She became sedentary and spoke gibberish so she could not defend herself when he took advantage of her sexually. That morning he became upset that she was crying so he strangled her. She thought she was going to black out before he let go. Before leaving he said if he saw her on the streets he would kill her.

Officers looked at video and saw the man leave and talk to a motel employee as they argued. Later, she told officers the man is an ex-boyfriend. She said their relationship was “real bad” and “violent.” They argued about him cheating on her.

The victim was taken to St. Michael’s Medical Center for a SANE exam while the suspect was arrested and taken to the Kitsap County Jail in Port Orchard.

Man assaults brother, dad over dying mom

A man assaulted his brother and dad during an argument over his dying mom.

The 42-year-old man from Seattle was in Superior Court June 9.

One assault charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. The other assault charge is for a year in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Court papers show Kitsap deputies arrested the man June 8 at 11:48 p.m. on SE Olympiad Drive in Port Orchard.

The mother is in hospice and unconscious, and the family expected her to die soon. She was in a hospital-style bed near the front door. The victim was sleeping about 10 feet away, when the suspect came in, turned on the lights, and said he wasn’t going to let his mom die in the dark. The suspect then left. The victim saw he had a bottle of whiskey, and he was supposed to be in rehab. He then told the dad the brother was drinking again. The dad said the suspect wasn’t welcome there if he’d been drinking. The brother then grabbed the dad by the testicles. The brother tried to help but was then put into a choke hold and he was pulled by his hair. The brother punched the suspect and was able to hold him down until officers arrived.

Woman assaults former girlfriend over breakup

A woman bit her former girlfriend during a fight about their breakup.

The 38-year-old Bremerton woman was in Superior Court June 9 charged with unlawful imprisonment and assault.

She faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine on the first charge and a year in jail and a $5,000 fine on the second.

Court papers say Kitsap deputies arrested her at 12:54 p.m. June 8 in the 9200 block of NW Holly Road at Wildcat Lake Park.

She and her girlfriend of over a year recently broke up. A witness said a woman with short black hair and a woman in a brown dress were yelling at each other. They had met at a storage unit that day when the suspect got into the victim’s car and refused to get out. The victim took her to the lake to try to calm her down as the suspect may have been on narcotics.

They set up a tent and started fighting when the victim wouldn’t let her go. So the suspect bit her. The victim then tried to leave in the car, but the suspect followed her. The suspect then punched her before deputies arrived.

Suspect assaults man with mom of his baby

A 40-year-old man from Suquamish was in Superior Court June 6 charged with assault after punching a man who was with the mother of his child.

The suspect faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Bail was $150,000.

Court documents say Bremerton police responded May 1 to the Subway at 3850 Kitsap Way after the suspect punched the victim, breaking his nose and causing medical issues with his right eye.

The victim was in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with his girlfriend. The suspect saw them and blocked the car and went up and opened their car door. He asked the woman who the man is as the victim’s girlfriend shares a 2-year-old daughter with the suspect. Before getting an answer, the suspect punched him then drove away. He said it would have been worse but their child was in his backseat.

Son choked by dad while driving vehicle

A 53-year-old Poulsbo man choked his son while he was driving.

The dad was in Superior Court June 10 on charges of harassment threat to kill.

He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Court papers say Kitsap deputies arrested the man June 9 at 4:02 p.m. in the NW Finn Hill Road and Clear Creek Road area.

The driver in a vehicle said his father choked him and threatened to kill him. The passenger was passed out and had a history of violent behavior when intoxicated. While his son was at a hair salon he had been drinking so much he was asked to leave.

As the son was driving afterward the dad threatened him, and choked him. The son slammed on the brakes, laid on the horn and flagged down a passerby, who dialed 911.

Paddleboarder finds her stolen vehicle

A woman who went paddleboarding with a friend spotted her stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the boat launch.

The man who stole it was passed out behind the wheel.

The 39-year-old man was in Superior Court June 10 charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

He faces 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines. Bail was $50,000.

Court documents say Bremerton police arrested the man June 9 at 3:47 p.m. in the 1900 block of Price Road. A woman said she located her stolen vehicle while at the boat launch there. She said the license plate had been changed. Police found a man asleep at the wheel.

The victim said she was paddleboarding with a friend when she saw the car. She knew it was hers because of a crack in the windshield. The VIN number was a match, as was her fob.

The car’s door lock had been punched out so badly the handle would not function. The ignition on the steering column was ripped apart.

Man rams Jeep, displays baseball bat

A man rammed a Jeep that his ex-girlfriend was in three times before bringing out a baseball bat.

The 34-year-old man from Port Orchard was in Superior Court June 11 facing three charges.

He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for each of two assault charges, along with five years and a $10,000 fine for violating a court order.

Court documents say Port Orchard police were dispatched May 12 at 4:52 p.m. to the Bethel Road SE-Sedgwick Road area. A blue truck was ramming a white Jeep. A man got out of a vehicle with a baseball bat.

The suspect’s ex-girlfriend was in the Jeep, along with a child, and there was a protection order against the suspect, who was arrested.

Man tackles dad, 71, resulting in injuries

A construction worker helped out as a son was beating up his 71-year-old father.

The 35-year-old Silverdale man was in Superior Court June 11 charged with assault.

He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Court filings show Kitsap deputies made the arrest June 10 at 12:45 p.m. at New Haven Lane NW in Silverdale. A mother said her son was manic and tackled his father, causing injuries to the 71-year-old man.

The dad was cleaning out his shed when he was tackled. The son then stood over his dad and threatened him. A construction worker got the son to walk away. The dad fractured a rib.

Shop owner’s video helps catch arson suspect

A woman captured an arson suspect on video and put it on Facebook to help nab the suspect.

The 31-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court June 12 charged with arson.

He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Court documents show Bremerton police responded June 11 at 5:50 a.m. to the 600 block of Naval Avenue in Bremerton. A woman said she had video of someone trying to light her business on fire the night before. Police found a black char likely caused by an explosive.

The victim said her camera had a motion sensor, and it was blown off the building by the explosive. The coffee shop owner put the video on Facebook and received an anonymous tip about the suspect. He had a history of reckless burning cases. And his black backpack with red zippers was in other video.

Pair arrested for cutting down cable wires

A 22-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man, both from Lakebay, were in Superior Court June 10 charged with malicious mischief for cutting cable wires for money.

They each face 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines. Bail was $100,000.

Court papers say Kitsap deputies arrested the pair, who were wearing orange reflective vests, headlamps and work gloves, for pulling down cable.

The call came in June 9 at 10:43 p.m. in the Port Orchard area of SW Pine Road and Sydney Road SW. The crime of taking cable is prevalent in that area.

The woman said she was unemployed but collects items to take to scrapyards for a living. They had loppers to cut wire into movable chunks. Fiber optic cable is worth about $25 a foot. Damage was estimated at $10,000.

The man also said the wire was already down. He said construction workers had let him take excess wire before.
