Kitsap County is seeking public comments about its draft land-use alternatives for county comprehensive plan update.

The county Board of Commissioners will hold three public hearings, one in each commissioner district, to accept public input on the draft land-use alternative the comprehensive plan staff recommends for the update.

A public hearing has been scheduled for Port Orchard Feb. 8 at the Kitsap County Administration Building. Map viewing is from 4:30-5:30 p.m., followed by the hearing during the county commissioners’ regular business meeting that evening.

The administration building is at 619 Division St. in Port Orchard.

Other public hearings have been set for Poulsbo on Feb. 1 and Silverdale on Feb. 2.

“Developing a preferred land-use map from the three alternatives is imperative for Kitsap County because land-use decisions have such direct impacts on the topics that are so important to us now and over the next 20 years, which include quality of life, public safety, and economic development,” said Commissioner Ed Wolfe, chair of the Board of County Commissioners.

The Kitsap County Comprehensive Plan update is required to be completed by June 2016. The draft plan with three land-use alternatives was issued for public comment in November. Based on input that’s been received, county staff is recommending a preferred land-use alternative to the board. Following the public hearings, the board will provide direction to its staff on which land-use alternative to incorporate into the final draft of the Comprehensive Plan.

The map for the preferred alternative is anticipated to be available Jan. 25. To view the maps and other background documents, visit http://compplan.kitsapgov.com. Additional public hearings will occur for the final draft comprehensive plan in April, May and June, the county commissioners board said.
