Kingston Rotary is a little club with big projects | Rotary News | November

Kingston Rotary

Rotary clubs, like Kingston Rotary, come in all sizes. The Seattle Rotary Club has hundreds of members and is so large that it needs to meet in a hotel ballroom.

Our Kingston Rotary Club is still fairly young and has an active membership of about 30 members. The emphasis in this club is active. Unlike some service organizations that meet for a meal, hear a brief speech and go back to their day, Kingston Rotary members are hard-working, money-raising community backers.

Kingston Rotary worked to raise money toward the purchase of field lights at Kingston High School.

When the word went out in October that the lights were working and the KHS Homecoming Game would be played in Kingston — Rotarians were thrilled. Most of these Rotarians do not have children at KHS, but feel connected to the school and its students.

Currently, Rotarians are selling KHS seat cushions to help sports fans be more comfortable in the bleachers or stands. Cushions are $10 each. Rotarians also learned that an important feature of the cushions is that they are waterproof. During the downpour just before the KHS Homecoming football game, Rotarians were hard at work selling cushions to fans.

Kingston Rotary has hosted golf tournaments, beer gardens and recently provided an Octoberfest Meal at Old Mill Days in Port Gamble. For a small club, that means that every member needs to pitch in to make projects successful—and we all do.

The money raised by these energetic members, our spouses and supporters flows right back to the community through scholarships, donations to community projects and even internationally. The club is now working to help provide water to a community in Belize.

If you are interested in the fun, fellowship and community service projects of Kingston Rotary, you are invited to attend one of our lunchtime meetings on Wednesdays. Email nanjmartin@aol.com for more information about attending Rotary.
