It’s OK, go medieval

We all knew that Port Gamble was full of ladies and gentlemen, but for those who are curious as to how far the former lumber town will go to prove this fact might want to check it out this weekend.

In regal fashion, the Society of Creative Anachronism will be creating (or re-creating as the case may be) its own version of medieval living.

For those of us stuck in the 21st century, or the 20th for that matter, the Barony of Dragon’s Laire offers up a romanticized view of what parts of the European world were like before the 17th century. No rats in the streets, open sewers or the Black Plague will be present, just a lot of folks you probably know from area businesses, schools and everywhere in between all dressed up in the garb of the day.

Yes, tights weren’t only fashionable in the 1980s — which is unfortunate.

Even so, the Barony does a fine job and the event is truly royal in its stature. The King and Queen will be there so it must be a big to do. Knights, archers, squires and damsels — some in despair, some not — will grace the green fields of Port Gamble with their presence.

So can you. Medieval Faire is a strange event for many in modern day society to grasp but it’s also a real hoot. The annual event is truly geared toward the whole family and invites residents from all walks of life to enjoy the pace of simpler days, take a break from the realities of everyday living and a step into the past.
