Attend the Peninsula Home and Remodel Expo and meet with local businesses interested in helping make area homes efficient, relaxing, and safe.

The expo runs Friday, Oct. 2 from 2-8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The event will be at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, 1200 Fairgrounds Road NW, in Bremerton. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for teens, active duty military and senior citizens. A three-day “All Access Pass” is $10.

The expo includes informative, on-trend seminars all weekend.

Friday, Oct. 2:

3 p.m. – Bolt It, Brace It, Do It! Is your home securely fastened to your foundation?

This 90-minute seminar teaches homeowners how to conduct a home evaluation, how to navigate the permitting process, how to properly bolt and plate a home, how to work safely, and how to identify the best engineering solutions. This course is offered as a partnership of Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management, Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the ICC, HBA of Kitsap County, Simpson Strong-Tie, and the building departments of Kitsap County. Upon completion of this seminar you will know how to retrofit a home or know how to hire a contractor. All who pre-register will receive a free Expo admission pass.

5:30 p.m. – Solar for your Home

Learn about different types of solar energy systems including passive solar space heating, cooling and daylighting; electricity production from grid-tied, stand–alone and hybrid systems; domestic hot water production for homes and pools; and Federal tax credits and utility incentives. The cost, appearance, efficiency and common myths of solar energy will be discussed.

Saturday, Oct. 3:

11:30 a.m. – Spin your meter backwards.

Join Andy Cochrane, president of Power Trip Energy, for this informative session about solar for area homes. Learn about the basics including terminology, technology, and how it will pay back over time.

1 p.m. – How to Budget for a Remodel Project.

Molly McCabe, an award winning contractor and national speaker will walk attendees through a variety of approaches to budgeting for various projects.

2:30 p.m. – Get to Know your Septic System.

While not the most glamorous, the septic system may be one of the most important aspects of a home. During this seminar attendees will become better informed about how most septic systems work, and the important “Do’s and Don’ts” that will ensure one has fewer problems and get the most life out of a system. Learn the signs for needing a new system and what should be expected when the time comes. There’s also a way to beautify drain fields. Attend this seminar to also learn what types of plants are suitable and won’t present problems in the future. To keep it working correctly, every home owner using a septic system should attend this seminar.

Sunday, Oct. 4

1 p.m. – Kitchen Trends.

Molly McCabe will answer questions about design and other choices that may be holding one back from moving forward with an updated kitchen. McCabe is an award-winning designer and a national speaker. Attendees will be engaged from the start and leave with a better idea of the options available, how to assess if they are right for a kitchen, and how to make the necessary decisions. McCabe’s creativity, experience, and depth of product knowledge will combine to make this one of the most valuable seminars one attends.
