Help decide about grading, trees to leave on Village Green site

Two meetings held to assess Village Green now that Navy housing is gone.

Now that the Navy housing is gone, but with fall and winter rains on the way, grading can’t occur at the site until spring, according to Kitsap County Parks and Recreation.

But those who live, walk, and drive by the site daily will have a chance to weigh in on how the site is graded. The parks department has identified three options that leave more or fewer trees, and the Village Green Stewardship Committee is interested in walking the site to help decide how the grading is done. The public is welcome.

There will be two chances to offer input about how this community asset will look after grading:

On Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m., meet at the site with Matt Keough, parks planning project manager, to look at its current condition and hear more about grading options. An evening meeting will also be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, loation to be announced later.

The grading done next spring will determine the way the area looks and may be used until groundbreaking for a new community center, library and senior center in the Village Green park takes place, sometime between 2010 and 2012, depending on funding.
