Harrison: A look at a major Kitsap health care organization

Harrison Medical Center was founded in 1918. Once a small community hospital, it is now the region's busiest medical center, caring for patients from Kitsap and surrounding counties.

Harrison Medical Center was founded in 1918. Once a small community hospital, it is now the region’s busiest medical center, caring for patients from Kitsap, Clallam, Jefferson and North Mason counties, with locations in Belfair, Bremerton, Forks, Port Orchard, Poulsbo, and Silverdale.

It is a not-for-profit medical center.

All told, Harrison has 2,300 employees and a medical staff of 415. Approximately 90 percent of its physicians are board-certified. According to Harrison, that figure ranks above the national average.

In 2013, Harrison affiliated with Franciscan Health Systems, a 501c 3 non-profit organization affiliated with Catholic Health Initiatives. In addition to managing Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton and Silverdale, Franciscan operates St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, St. Elizabeth Hospital in Enumclaw, St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, and Highline Medical Center in Burien; and clinics, urgent care centers, and pharmacies.

Harrison Medical Center, Bremerton: Acute care, 24/7 emergency care, cardiovascular services, open-heart surgery, oncology, critical care, inpatient and outpatient surgery, orthopedics, rehabilitation, and sleep center.

The following Harrison HealthPartners offices are also located in Bremerton: cardiothoracic surgery, family medicine, internal medicine, endocrinology, hematology and oncology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, thoracic and vascular, and urology.

Harrison Medical Center, Silverdale: Opened in 2000 at Myhre Road and Ridgetop Boulevard. Mother/baby care, pediatrics, women’s services, orthopedic center, outpatient surgery, rehabilitation, 24/7 emergency care, and advanced imaging services, including an open MRI.

Approximately 2,100 babies are born annually at Harrison Silverdale. Harrison HealthPartners offices provide breast care, family medicine, dermatology, general surgery.

Harrison Port Orchard: This urgent care center opened in 1995. Onsite services include X-ray, laboratory and EKG testing, as well as rehabilitation and home health. It is also home to Harrison HealthPartners Family Medicine and Internal Medicine.

Harrison Belfair: Created in partnership with North Mason Public Hospital District No. 2. Began serving patients in April 2009 with 12-hour urgent care seven days a week, Harrison HealthPartners Primary Care on weekdays, and outpatient lab and imaging services.

Harrison Poulsbo: Hospital-based outpatient cancer care at Harrison HealthPartners Hematology & Oncology. Began providing services in July 2009 that include chemotherapy treatments, an onsite laboratory, patient navigators, nutritional medicine, support services and resources, and complementary therapies.

Other offices include Harrison HealthPartners Internal Medicine & Adult Primary Care and Rheumatology.

Harrison Forks: Harrison HealthPartners Family Medical Center provides primary care services for children and adults.

Harrison Sequim: Harrison HealthPartners Dermatology treats skin problems and conditions, including skin cancer, melanoma, psoriasis, eczema and atopic dermatitis, nail problems, and more. Skin surgery can also be performed to remove skin cancer, melanomas and non-cancerous skin lesions.
