Hansville toxins meeting set | News brief

HANSVILLE — The public can learn more about a project to remove diesel contamination from property surrounding the Hansville General Store at a meeting April 8.

The State Department of Ecology is also extending the public comment period for the project to April 12. Ecology hopes to begin removing contaminated soil from the site this summer. Diesel contamination in the area has been traced to two fuel tanks left over from a service station.

Ecology is seeking federal money for the project. Work would likely slow traffic on Twin Spits Road though both the road and store will remain open.

The public meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hansville Community Center, 6778 Buck Lake Road in Hansville. Ecology staff will field questions and comments.

Project documents can be viewed at the Little Boston Library or online at www.ecy.wa.gov. Comments can be sent to Mark Adams, Washington Department of Ecology, 3190 160th Ave. S.E., Bellevue, WA 98008 or mada461@ecy.wa.gov.
