Hansville planning committee meetings cancelled

The May Greater Hansville Planning Committee meetings have been cancelled due to drastic reduction in county staff availability, according to Pete Sullivan, associate planner for Kitsap County. County planners will use this time to prepare the preliminary draft plan, he said. Draft documents will be available for review and comment by June. Remaining community meetings will be held in conjunction with regularly-scheduled GHAAC meetings or special events as described below. The planning committee members and interested parties shoold attend the June 9 GHAAC meeting for a status update, Sullivan said.

The Department of Community Development will also host another community open house, tentatively scheduled for the afternoon of June 28. During this one-time-only event, citizens will be invited to review and comment on the preliminary draft plan. Over the next month, staff will revise the plan accordingly, including a short debrief at the July 14 GHAAC meeting. DCD will present the final draft at a special GHAAC meeting tentatively scheduled for July 28. The Kitsap County Planning Commission begins its review in August, followed by formal public hearings and final adoption by the Board of County Commissioners no later than December 2009. “This planning process is nearing completion,” Sullivan said, “so now is the time to make your voices heard.”
