SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
The Kiwanis Club of Bremerton, through the Kiwanis Bennett Memorial Scholarship Trust, awarded 24 students a total of $33,000 in scholarships at a recent luncheon at the Kitsap Conference Center at Bremerton Harborside.
The Bennett Memorial Trust, which was established in 1955, is managed by the Kiwanis Club of Bremerton. Scholarships are awarded annually to students graduating from Kitsap County or North Mason high schools, or students planning on attending Olympic College. Applicants are evaluated on community service, grade point average and financial need.
This year’s scholarship recipients are
Central Kitsap — Morgan Flaherty, Matthew Granito, Lindsey Hart and Alyssa Peckenpaugh.
Olympic High School — Kelley O’Brien and Amanda Snyder.
Bremerton — Yong Hao Deng, Malea Martin, Dominica Ogazi, Ashleigh Schiano and Autumn Thomas.
South Kitsap — Marissa Etzkorn and Jessica Jordan.
North Kitsap — Kolby Carlson and Piper Sellers.
North Mason — Leah Staub.
Bainbridge — Electra Magnuson.
Olympic College — Eric Berry, Kelly Foote, Erin Schwartz and Nicholas Keough.
University of Washington — Bridget Claycomb, Marie Spiker and Sheila Spiker.

FREE CLASSES
Bremerton Goodwill’s Job Training and Education Center, located at 4209 Wheaton Way, is currently enrolling people in free classes for the summer session, which begins May 27 through July 17.
The courses teach those with significant barriers to employment valuable skills to find and keep jobs.
Bremerton Goodwill will allow people 40 years of age and older access to its computers in a unique partnership with AARP. These mature workers will be able to use AARP’s online job assessment tools. AARP can then place people in internships and classes at community colleges to learn valuable skills that will lead to employment. Goodwill staff will be available to advise people on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m.
The National External Diploma Program will continue to be offered this session. The program gives people who have acquired career, family and community experiences the opportunity to earn a high school diploma by completing tasks, courses and independent projects. Goodwill staff will be available to advise people on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m., and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Basic English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) — Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon
Intermediate ESOL — Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Basic Computer Fundamentals (for those with little or no computer experience) — Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon
