SALT LAKE CITY — David Bickford of Silverdale recently graduated from Western Governors University with a bachelor’s degree in business management.

BASIC TRAINING COMPLETED

GREAT LAKES, Ill. — Navy Seaman Recruit Brandon Graves, son of Patrick Graves of Bremerton and Linda Graves of Bellingham, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Graves completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis also was placed on physical fitness.

NEW BOARD MEMBERS

The Silverdale Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors elected officers for 2009.

JeanMarie Harmon of Costco Wholesale will be the new president of the board; Chris Koebelin of the Silverdale Beach Hotel, president-elect; Ed Hannifan of Prudential NW Real Estate, treasurer; Mike Walton of Walton Enterprises, International, secretary; and Catie Malcom of Catie’s Creations, vice-president for special events.

Carla Camacho of Kitsap Bank, Anji Sell of Edward Jones, and Linda Moran of State Farm Insurance will join remaining board members Carl Johnson, Abiding Home Care; John Hunter, The Logo Loft; and Carrie Mulcahy, Ashley Gardens.

VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT

Volunteers are desperately needed at the American Cancer Society (AMC) Discovery Shop located at 10600 Silverdale Way NW, near Kitsap Mall.

The AMC Shop sells new and gently used items and is in need of people who want to have fun while helping out as cashiers and store clerks. Volunteers are asked to work a minimum of four hours per week and are entitled to perks. For more information, call the store at (360) 613-4139.

LICENSE YOUR PET

All pets are required by law to be licensed in Kitsap County. Pet licenses for unincorporated Kitsap County and the city of Bremerton can be purchased at the Kitsap Humane Society, located at 9167 Dickey Road in Silverdale. DEPRESSION AND BIPOLAR HELP

A Bremerton chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) was formed last month.

The group meets every Tuesday and provides information, education, support and understanding for those people directly affected by depression or bipolar disorder, as well as their families and friends. For more information, visit the Web site at www.dbsalliance.org.
