POTENTIAL EXCHANGE STUDENTS SOUGHT

The city of Bremerton and the Bremerton Central Lions Club are accepting applications for exchange students to visit Kure, Japan, Bremerton’s sister city, for one month this summer. This year, three students will be selected to represent the city of Bremerton.

The program is offered to 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students at Bremerton High School, Central Kitsap High School, Olympic High School and Klahowya Secondary School.

Students interested in applying may obtain application forms from school counselors or from the mayor’s office at city hall in Bremerton. Application forms must be received by the mayor’s office no later than Tuesday, April 7.

For more information, call Elaine Valencia in the Mayor’s office at (360) 473-5266.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council (KRCC) is accepting applications for residents interested in playing an important part in the allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership funds.

Kitsap County has traditionally distributed federal CDBG and HOME funds to projects that promote community and individual well-being. The five citizens who make up the Community Development Citizen Advisory Board, assist Block Grant Planners in developing draft action plans and conducting public meetings to review proposals for use of CDBG and HOME funds. Volunteers represent consumers of services, residents of unincorporated Kitsap County and the cities of Port Orchard, Poulsbo or Bainbridge Island.

For more information and to receive an application packet, contact Jan Koske, Kitsap County volunteer services coordinator, at (360) 337-4650 or jkoske@co.kitsap.wa.us. Application packets also can be downloaded at www.kitsapgov.com/volunteer/boards/cab_cd.htm.

Completed applications should be returned no later than 4:30 p.m. May 22.

MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY

The Silverdale Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Annual Military Appreciation Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 4 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds Pavilion.

This annual salute to the men and women of the Armed Services is a chance for businesses and organizations to show their appreciation through offering significant discounts on products and services.

Along with the commercial booths, there will be many interactive displays and demonstrations showcasing the missions of various local military commands. These displays will be both inside and outside the building.

For more information about the event, contact the chamber office at (360) 692-6800.
