POULSBO — A three-car collision at the intersection of State Route 305 and the entrance to Eagle Tree RV Park left four people injured Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters, medic crews and local law enforcement were called to the scene shortly before 3 p.m. Aug. 19.
According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, a 1993 GMC truck, driven by Poulsbo resident Jose Raul Mena Deluna, 28, was southbound on SR 305 when it failed to yield to traffic and hit a 1997 Saturn station wagon, driven by Jon William Goetz, 50, of Poulsbo. The Saturn was stopped in the roadway, turning left into the RV park.
After the GMC hit the Saturn, the Saturn spun around and ran into a 2004 four-door Toyota, which was headed northbound SR 305. The Toyota was driven by Sharon Kay Strauss, 43, of Bainbridge Island.
Goetz and passenger Adrienne Goetz, 18, of Elko, Nev., were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Strauss and passenger Jay Strauss, 46, of Bainbridge Island, were transported to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton for neck injuries.
Deluna and passenger Eduardo Deluna, 7, were not injured.
Washington State Patrol, Poulsbo Fire, North Kitsap Fire & Rescue, Bainbridge Island Fire Department, Poulsbo Police and Suquamish Police responded.
WSP Sergeant Gailin Hester said the accident is still under investigation.
Residents who were watching the clean up efforts said drivers speed on the road daily and it is dangerous pulling in and out of the businesses and residential streets along SR 305.
Sue George, who owns Eagle Tree RV Park with her husband Lyle, said she has been asking the state to create a turn lane at least six years, but to no avail.
While this was the first collision at the entrance to her business, “we’ve heard the squeaky wheels,” she said.
There have been collisions within the same stretch of highway, at George Lane and at the entrance of Cedar Glen RV Park, George added. A turn lane is currently in the works for particular curve, she said, pointing out the construction and exposed dirt on the west side of the highway.
“This stretch of road is getting busier and busier,” commented one resident.
