Update: Former Poulsbo Mayor Richard Mitchusson plead not guilty to a new felony count Friday afternoon. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 23. It was originally reported he would be back in court Monday.

Former Poulsbo Mayor Richard ‘Mitch’ Mitchusson will make his first appearance in Kitsap County Superior Court today. His appearance follows charges alleging he committed stalking and sexually motivated assault against several Poulsbo women. Prosecutors say more than 20 potential victims have stepped forward since original charges were filed by three women in Kitsap County District Court. Kitsap County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kelly Montgomery said Mitchusson will be notified of probable cause today.

Mitchusson was arrested in downtown Poulsbo Wednesday during a routine traffic stop.

In district court Thursday Deputy Prosecutor Barbara Dennis said a “vast” number of responses from other victims have been brought forward to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office. Defense attorney Matt Clucas has stated Mitchusson suffers from a form of dementia known as Picks Disease. Bail has been set at $200,000. Each charge against Mitchusson carries a penalty of one year in prison or a $5,000 fine.
