The annual pre-Mothers Day Flotsam and Jetsam Garden Sale, along with its professionally guided Cut Flower Arrangement Sale, and its “to die for” Bake Sale will be held at the Greater Hansville Community Center at Buck Lake County Park on Saturday, May 9.
The crowd control “rope drop” is at 9 a.m. sharp and the event goes quickly, ending at noon. Raffle tickets will be on sale for some outstanding items, say co-chairs Dody Solaas and Glee Palmer-Davis. The lucky winners are drawn well before the sale ends. The same goes for the Silent Auction which offers an array of special garden-related goods to bid on throughout the sale area.
Last year’s Garden Sale helped support more than $5,500 in scholarships and grants to local students and organizations such as Ladies Aid, the YWCA, the Jim Shipman Library at Wolfle Elementary, the Hansville Greenway and the new Native Plant Garden at Buck Lake Park.
This year’s sale will offer an even larger array of bargain-priced quality trees and shrubs, perennials and houseplants. And in keeping with the trend toward home-grown food, many of the 200-plus member garden club will contribute a variety of vegetable and herb starts.
With Mother’s Day following on Sunday, members of a garden club committee, overseen by Marianne Mallabon (a retired professional florist), will have created a spectacular array of cut flower arrangements inside the community center, “perfect for gift giving,” said Mallabon.
The bake sale, also located in the community center, will offer a variety of fresh-baked cakes, cookies and other sweets. To reach the sale, follow the signs on Hansville Road to Buck Lake County Park. There’s plenty of free parking.
