Flotsam and Jetsam plant sale May 9

This year’s garden sale will feature a bigger-than-ever assortment of vegetables, herbs, perennials, annuals, ground covers, shrubs and trees. Plants are grown by members and hardened off in the few weeks before the sale so that they will thrive in your garden.

HANSVILLE — Join your friends, neighbors and community for the Flotsam and Jetsam Garden Club’s 38th annual sale 9 a.m. to noon on May 9 at the Greater Hansville Community Center.

This year’s garden sale will feature a bigger-than-ever assortment of vegetables, herbs, perennials, annuals, ground covers, shrubs and trees. Plants are grown by members and hardened off in the few weeks before the sale so that they will thrive in your garden.

Also back this year, just in time for Mother’s Day, will be a wide variety of flower arrangements, robust houseplants and a long banquet table full of delicious pies, cakes, pastries and cookies to help Mom have a very special day.

This year will be the fourth year of the tomato-plant giveaway for childdren too.

Flotsam and Jetsam will have several parking volunteers on hand to welcome you and guide you on where to park. Arrive just before 9 a.m. as seasoned shoppers do, because then the rope drops and the fun begins.

Help from garden club members makes the sale one of the easiest around. Have questions? Ask the team of Master Gardeners who will be there. And members of Boy Scout Troop 555 will load your purchases into your car for you.

Enjoy raffles? This year’s raffle includes a large number of gift certificates and items donated by local nurseries, garden stores, local retailers and restaurants — buy your raffle tickets throughout the morning.

The annual garden sale has grown over the years to become a much anticipated event involving all club members and the local community. The Flotsam and Jetsam Garden Club uses the proceeds from this sale to fund scholarships and grants in horticultural and environmental studies and to educate its members on all things gardening through a series of speakers and field trips throughout the year.

If you have a yen for gardening, come to aclub meeting and see if it is a fit for you. The club meets at 9 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month, with social hour, at the Greater Hansville Community Center.
