POULSBO — The Fjord Drive Slide Repair Project is finished.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled today at 2 p.m. Mayor Becky Erickson will thank her city staff members who worked on the project, and will cut a ribbon to ceremonially open the road. The event is open to the public.

A portion of slope on Fjord Drive slid about two years ago, forcing the closure of one of two traffic lanes. City Engineer Andrzej Kasiniak acquired a federal grant to help pay more than half of the $814,000 project cost. Soil Nail Launcher of Colorado used soil nails to stabilize the slope. The project involved 200 steel tendons drilled and grouted into the soil, followed by a reinforcing mesh, and topped with a spray coating of “shotcrete,” a liquid concrete. The work began Sept. 6.

“It’s been two years. We’re relieved to get it opened,” Erickson said. “We’re stable and in good shape now, (but) that whole bluff — we have to watch it carefully.”
